ARIA 2024 is Toronto’s leading research and technological innovation showcase, hosted by the University of Toronto’s Department of Computer Science. ARIA brings together some of the globe's most innovative companies, with Canada’s most talented STEM faculty and graduates to demonstrate and celebrate advances in technology that are reshaping global digital industries.

This year the Department of Computer Science is celebrating its 60th anniversary and ARIA is celebrating its 10th anniversary in a big way, making this year’s Applied Research in Action Showcase the biggest in its longstanding history. ARIA 2024 is hosting over 150 student-led R&D projects, networking opportunities with industry-leading partners, and live demonstrations of cutting-edge research in industry and our departmental research labs. A special feature this year includes a keynote from Professor Sanja Fidler, VP of AI Research at NVIDIA, and a fireside chat between Department of Computer Science alumni Nick Frosst, Co-founder of Cohere, Orion Buske, Chief Technology Officer of PhenoTips, and Inmar Givoni, Writer.

Department of Computer Science

The University of Toronto Department of Computer Science is a hub of innovation in the field, and home to more than 100 faculty, more than 2,500 undergraduates and over 450 graduate students.

Since 1964, the department has provided students and external partners with opportunities to engage in cutting-edge and collaborative research that addresses the biggest technological challenges of the day, spanning the physical sciences, engineering, medicine, commerce and the arts.

Its award-winning faculty are recognized internationally and are renowned for their commitment to research and teaching. The department is home to two Turing Award winners and to members of acclaimed computing societies, including five ACM fellows and seven Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada. 

This year the Department of Computer Science celebrates its 60th anniversary and since its founding, it has been globally recognized for its strong academic programs, teaching, and research that push the boundaries of computer science discovery and innovation.
